Before Choosing an Alternative Healer or Practitioner
The reasons people choose a natural therapist is because they want to try a different approach to healing and you are no doubt taking that step yourself. As Natural therapy is becoming more of an option or alternative to orthodox methods, more Australian are reaching out to take a different approach to healing themselves in a gentle way. Any form of alternative therapy can be dangerous if performed incorrectly. Although the information contained on Austherapy is intended to help, we ask you to take a look over this important imformation before choosing a Natural therapist. Please consider these tips in addition to your commonsense before choosing a Natural healer or using the advice on these pages. - What do you want to achieve from the visit or session? Contact the healer to ask about their experience and history. Who have they treated and what conditions have they treated? Ask them to tell you about some of the work they have done. This will give you an idea about if they are the right practitioner for your condition.
- If necessary, check the practitioner has a formal qualification approved by a professional association or recognised Australian body. Check if they have a recognised certificate or proof of education achieved. If the therapist is professional, they will be happy to talk about their qualifications.
- Check that the therapist has the required insurance, tools, or experience. If the therapist is performing particular treatments in Australia, they are required to hold insurance and an appropriate environment in which to practice. Ideally they should have a dedicated clinic space or a room.
- Ask exactly what the treatment involves. You may have read or heard about a particular treatment, but each therapist may have their own style or technique. Ask for step by step details before the treatment begins.
- Are you comfortable with the practitioner or healer? If you don't get a good feeling from the environment or therapist you are not required to continue with the treatment. You may also want to talk to other patients or friends who have had experience with the therapist. Remember word of mouth is the best advertising.
- How much is it going to cost? It may seem like a silly question but a particular therapist might not fit your budget. Do they offer discounts? Concessions? Can you claim them on your health insurance, if you have it?
