Naturopathy

Naturopathic Philosophy

Naturopathy treats health conditions by utilising the body's inherited ability to heal. The Naturopath knows that the human body always aims to reach an equilibrium of health. All disease within the body is disrupting the natural progress towards a healthy equilibrium and we simply need to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities.

Naturopaths aid the healing process by using a variety of alternative methods based on the patient's individual needs, for example, nutrition, herbal medicine, tissue minerals, cell salts, vitamins, homeopathic medicine and oriental medicine. The patient’s diet, lifestyle, work and personal history are also considered when determining a healing regime.

The core philosophy of Naturopathy is based on the belief that the cause of disease defies nature's laws.

What should I expect in a consulation?

The Naturopath will consider the body as not a machine, but rather an individual made up of mind, body and soul, and will aim to cure and ease suffering in the gentlest possible way. To assess a patient as an individual, the naturopath will need around an hour to an hour and a half to talk about current health complaints, history and future health goals. Through understanding the patient as an individual, the naturopath will have a better understanding of the possible reasons for illness, and will therefore have a better chance at curing the true core causes of the illness.

Simply suppressing an ailment or disease with medicine is considered pointless because the true root or origin of the disease is not cured, so the therapist will try to find the true cause behind the illness or imbalance in your body. If symptoms are suppressed, they will later appear again or as a new illness connected with the true original cause.

A Naturopath may:
  • Discuss ways of overcoming detrimental habits such as smoking or unhealthy eating habits.
  • talk about using homoeopathic and/or herbal substances to assist healing of ailments.
  • Use Iridology to help with diagnosis of potential illness or weakness in the body.
  • talk about using a form of body work to complement treatment. Such examples could be Shiatsu, reflexology or Remedial massage.
  • Talk about the possiblity of periods of detoxification . This may include removing certain food groups, such as dairy, from the diet.
  • Look at and suggest changes in your diet. The naturopath may also suggest supplements to ensure the correct nutritional requirements are met in your diet.
