What is the history of Reiki?

Reiki is a system of enlightenment and hands-on-healing art developed in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan. Reiki is a complementary therapy using gentle touch and directing of energy to promote better health and well being within a patient.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki, meaning universal life force energy. The term "Reiki" is used to describe both the energy and the Usui system of using it. The original system by Usui was called “Usui Reiki Ryoho”. There are many variations of Reiki being practiced around the world today.

How can Reiki help me?

Reiki is one of the few healing modalities which does not use the practitioner’s own energy for healing. The Reiki therapists simply channels energy from the universe through him or herself and direct it to the patient. Reiki uses specific hand positions, on or above parts of the body that correspond to the major organs and energy centers, such as the heart or lymph glands.

Since Reiki uses the Universal Life Energy, which Is everywhere, including in our bodies and outside, the practitioner can use it on himself or herself. Sounds unlikely? Reiki practice is spreading like wildfire around the world and patients are reporting fantastic results ranging from a sense of well being to pain relief. The key to benefiting from this practice is having an open mind.
